The happy hour drinks add to the appeal, with amazing deals on cocktails and beer that elevate the dining experience. Most Disliked
While many love the food, occasional reports mention inconsistency in seasoning, particularly with dishes like the Pontchartrain sauce, which some found overly cheesy or thick. The restaurant can get quite busy, particularly during peak hours, leading to potential wait times that can test patience, especially in a smaller venue. Some have noted that seating can feel cramped during rush periods, making it less ideal for large groups without reservations. Additionally, while the food quality is generally praised, a few diners have experienced over-salted sides that detracted from the meal. It’s a mixed bag during busy times, but manageable with some planning.

I was greeted by a familiar face (James)who once worked at the hospital and now is the manager. The server, Cris, took my order and pretty quickly, my seafood gumbo arrived. It was hot, fresh and savory. Before I could finish, my catfish platter was being placed in front of me. It too was fresh and hot. The food overall was well cooked and seasoned perfectly. For dessert, it was the bread pudding that capped off an already wonderful experience. James not only upgraded the menu from the last time I was here, 4 years ago, has a vision to make it more of a gathering spot for friends and family. Larger TV’s have been added, they will be opening up on Sundays and the quality of food is constantly checked and improved. I definitely will be coming back here when I visit the historic city. Thanks to James and all the staff for treating me like family.

Bartender was friendly and got pretty chatty with us. Drinks were good (especially the blue frozen drink) and the food was great. I had the catfish lunch and it came with 4 big filets, fries, and hush puppies. Filets were so big that after three of them I was packed full and couldn't even eat dinner that night. A definite must go!

When we arrived there was a small wait time. The place is very small, so if you come during a rush hour or while a special event is going on downtown, expect to be waiting awhile or not get in at all. The hostess was nice and the waitress did a great job and was very attentive. I ordered a bottle beer, and high was very cold and my GF ordered a frozen watermelon margarita, it was very delicious. We started off with fried gator bites, they were really good, with a good crispy batter and juicy inside. For our entree’s, I ordered the fried sampler. Its was very good. She ordered the snapper with pontchartrain sauce, the fish was really good and seasoned well. However, the pontchartrain sauce wasn’t a hit, it was cheesy and too thick. The mashed potatoes were way over seasoned and very salty. I’m from Louisiana and love some seasoning, but this was way too much and we weren’t able to eat it. Everything was reasonably priced. We’d come back again.

Mama's never disappoints! It's been 10 years since we visited, and it's only gotten better (if that's possible). The fried gator bites were so tender and tasty, and that sauce is to die for. The oyster poboy delivered on our craving. Excellent, friendly service. Wish we lived closer.

A gem 💎 but be sure to arrive more than 30 minutes before closing as the kitchen closes down a bit early. The food is top of the top for a bar in a small community. Live music was surprisingly awesome for a small spot. But hey, it's The South so I should have expected hidden talent Serving staff was super and friendly. The atmosphere reminds me of Cheers but with a Texas / Louisiana twist. Check out all the shops nearby and the Church around the corner, oh and the gorgeous riverfront.
